The best time to prepare for a disaster or an emergency is now and not when the local news alerts you to an impending incident. There are many ways to prepare before a disaster occurs. The following 12 actions are some important ways for you and yours to increase your preparedness:
- Sign up for alerts and warning
- Make a plan
- Have sufficient saving/runs for emergency spending
- Practice emergency drills
- Test family communications plan
- Safeguard important documents
- Include your neighbors in your planning
- Make your home safer
- Know your evacuation routes
- Assemble of update supplies
- Get involved with your greater community
- Document and insure your property.
