CRASE Training

CRASE or Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events is free community training provided by Auburn Police Department for those who would like to learn how to best protect themselves in the event of an active shooter event. CRASE is delivered in a four-hour statistically informed curriculum developed by Texas State University originally designed for businesses, religious organizations, schools and universities.

Trainings are conducted by Auburn Police Officers who are certified CRASE instructors and provide strategies, guidance and a proven plan for improving survivability in an active shooter event.

Topics included in CRASE:

• Disaster response including civilian response options
• Considerations for conducting drills
• How to assist law enforcement
• How to limit casualties and more

2024 Public Safety Academy

Beginning with the first Citizens' Police Academy in 1995, the program allowed citizens to come into the Auburn Police Department and learn the details of providing services to our community. Over the year, the annual program developed to include all of Auburn's Public Safety Services: Police, Fire and Emergency Management & Communications to re-launch as Auburn's Public Safety Academy in 2008.

Available to civilians in the community who are 19 years or older, the program is conducted in ten classes from March to April to cultivate a stronger relationship between Public Safety Services and Auburn's residents.

Each week, a variety of presenters will discuss topics ranging from the enforcement of building codes to crime scenes to fire prevention. The final session provides an opportunity to discuss future goals, a presentation from the Public Safety Academy Alumni Association and the Public Safety Academy graduation ceremony. The result is a group of individuals with a better understanding, appreciation and relationship with Auburn Public Safety Services and members in their community.

2023 Public Safety Academy Class

RAD Self Defense Training

RAD or Rape Aggression Defense is a course provided by Auburn University's Department of Campus Safety and Security for female students. This comprehensive program teaches realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women that promotes awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance with a progression to hands-on training and simulation exercises.

RAD is an elective for one hour of class credit and students may sign up when choosing their classes for the upcoming semester.                           PHED 2200 SELF DEFENSE FOR WOMEN (1)
