Story Time

Story Time is an entertaining, engaging early literacy enrichment program using books, storytelling, puppets, rhymes, songs and movement activities designed to help your child learn and practice pre-reading skills, develop an increased vocabulary and attention span and nurture a lifelong love of reading. Utilizing research-based Supercharged Storytimes training, Engagement and Outreach staff develop early literacy programs that are intentional, interactive and reflective.

  • Intentionality—Staff purposefully incorporate research-based early literacy strategies into story time planning, delivery and assessment. Through intentional planning and story time interaction, we support the adults who are with the children every day to continue early literacy activities at home.
  • Interactivity—Staff facilitate interaction between adults and their children by modeling dialogic reading and offering early literacy tips that show the connection between activities, early literacy and reading.
  • Assessment—Staff take time for self-reflection, peer observation and peer sharing. We believe the sharing of ideas through a Community of Practice is key to a successful early literacy program.

Puppet Shows

Utilizing the Supercharged Storytimes training described above, Engagement and Outreach staff develop puppet play scripts for the Auburn Public Library Puppet Troupe to present to live audiences. Puppet Shows are designed to entertain, engage and transport the audience into a world of imagination while supporting early literacy skill development, fostering a love of reading and encouraging interaction between children and their adults. Puppet Shows include music, songs and interactive activities.
